Senior Stakeholder Engagement and Media Officer

About the role

A Commonwealth regulatory agency in the agriculture portfolio, which makes scientific and regulatory decisions affecting farmers, industry and the community, has a four-month contract for a Senior Stakeholder Engagement and Media Officer. The role sits in the Engagement and Communications team, reporting to the Assistant Director Media and Engagement, and covers media liaison, issues management and secretariat support for the stakeholder engagement program. Much of the work translates complex scientific and regulatory information for a public policy audience.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the Assistant Director Media and Engagement to identify and develop media opportunities
• Monitor media and emerging issues daily and manage direct media liaison
• Draft media statements and talking points
• Act as secretariat for stakeholder engagement forums and committees
• Map and analyse stakeholders and maintain the organisation's stakeholder databases
• Build working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including the department, the Minister's office and external groups

Required profile

• Experience in media and issues monitoring, media liaison and writing for media purposes
• Background in stakeholder engagement
• Strong organisational and time management skills, with genuine secretariat experience
• Track record of achieving positive media coverage
• Qualification or background in communications, science, media or journalism
• Ability to liaise directly with government stakeholders and explain technical information clearly

Desirable: experience in media related to science, agriculture, veterinary, health or environmental fields, and experience with departmental or ministerial liaison.

What we offer

• Pay of $65-$75 per hour plus 12% superannuation
• Four-month labour hire contract based in Canberra
