Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Join Babcock to sustain and enhance the Defence High Frequency Communications System (DHFCS), a critical capability for the Australian Defence Force. As a Senior Software Engineer you will lead software maintenance, develop components and simulators, and ensure operational reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver software maintenance activities and engineering changes.
• Analyse issues, design, implement, integrate and test software solutions following approved processes.
• Oversee software changes through the Software Development Environment and collaborate with integration and test teams.
• Support customer approvals and controlled release of software into the operational environment.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in software engineering roles with strong technical judgement.
• Background in requirements analysis, integration, testing, configuration management and version control.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and working in a regulated defence environment.
• Accredited bachelor’s degree in software engineering or related technical discipline.

Required skills

• Modern Integrated Development Environment (IDE).
• Agile development practices.
• Simulators or complex system development.
• Knowledge of communications systems and radio‑frequency components.
• Software development, configuration management and version control.
