Senior Software Engineer - Digitisation

About the role

Neara builds physics-enabled digital twins of electricity grids using machine learning, helping utilities understand risks and optimise investments. As a Senior Software Engineer in the Digitisation group, you will build the platform that sits between the algorithms and the people who deliver them, making digital twin creation self-service. The office is in Redfern.

Key responsibilities

• Build the interface between the algorithms and the people who use them, surfacing problems clearly so non-developers can act on them and feeding human corrections back into the ML systems as training and evaluation data
• Design frameworks that break work into standard, repeatable units that can be forecast across projects and regions
• Improve tooling performance, including load times and interaction latency
• Own the rollout of the platform to internal teams across global regions

Required profile

• A strong track record designing and shipping complex, production-grade systems
• Care for the end-user experience, especially for expert users
• Product sense: understanding users, gathering requirements and staying focused on outcomes
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Ability to get up to speed quickly in unfamiliar technical areas

Required skills

• Experience with modern programming languages such as Java, C++, Dart, TypeScript, WebGL and Python
• Ability to earn credibility with engineers in unfamiliar territory and make sensible technical trade-offs

Nice to have: human-in-the-loop systems, owning a DSL or low-code surface, supporting distributed teams across time zones, dense stateful tools for expert users, exposure to geospatial systems, LiDAR, utilities, energy or physics-based platforms, and interest in the machine learning side of Digitisation.
