Senior Software Developer - Hunter Program

About the role

BAE Systems Australia is seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join its team supporting the Hunter Program at Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia. The role covers the analysis, design, development, maintenance and support of software critical to program success, in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment with close partnership with internal teams and customer stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain scalable software applications and services.
• Contribute to microservices-based architectures using modern containerisation technologies.
• Develop high-quality, maintainable code using JavaScript, Node.js and related technologies.
• Design and implement secure APIs, authentication mechanisms and role-based access controls.
• Support build, release and deployment processes across development and production environments.
• Troubleshoot software issues and ensure system stability and performance.
• Take part in code reviews, technical documentation and continuous improvement.
• Provide ongoing production support and contribute to system enhancements and optimisation.

Required profile

• Experience designing, developing and supporting enterprise applications.
• Strong software design and architecture experience, with scalable, maintainable solutions.
• Experience developing RESTful APIs, authentication services and role-based access controls.
• Proven experience with build and release management, CI/CD pipelines, deployment and production support.
• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Defence Security Clearance.

Required skills

• JavaScript and Node.js, with containerisation (Docker and/or Podman) in microservices environments.
• Relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills, able to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
