Senior Safety Advisor

About the role

Nyrstar is looking for a Senior Safety Advisor to join its Port Pirie site, reporting to the Safety Superintendent. The role drives the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the Safety Management System and helps build a strong safety culture. It is a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain site safety and business continuity manuals in line with regulations.
• Identify gaps against standards, regulations and codes of practice and recommend and implement improvements.
• Set safety and business continuity KPIs, run system audits and manage safety processes proactively.
• Coach site leaders on safety and business continuity systems and support staff training in safe work practices, hazard identification and emergency procedures.
• Maintain the site risk register, audit high-risk activities with operations teams and lead incident investigations including ICAM processes.
• Facilitate stakeholder consultation on safety communication and prepare weekly, monthly and annual safety reports.
• Analyse safety data to find trends and improve outcomes, and support emergency response outside normal hours.

Required profile

• More than 5 years of experience in a similar safety role.
• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (Bachelor's degree preferred).
• Strong knowledge of South Australian WHS legislation, codes of practice and Australian Standards.
• Ability to wear and maintain personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, boots and respirators.
• Unrestricted right to work in Australia.

Required skills

• Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office; knowledge of RIMS and SAP is advantageous.
• Interpersonal and communication skills, and effective time management.
