Day Coordinator - Slag Fumer

About the role

Nyrstar is looking for a Day Coordinator (Slag Fumer) to join its Finished Products department in Port Pirie, South Australia. The role oversees operations and supports the Maintenance and Operations teams during planned and unplanned shutdowns, ensuring isolations, confined space entries, Safe Permit to Work (SPTW) requirements and documentation are prepared and managed safely. It reports to the Operating Superintendent and is a permanent position.

Key responsibilities

• Understand and apply site isolation and Safe Permit to Work (SPTW) procedures.
• Oversee operations in the Slag Fumer, Kilns, PETS, WTP and EAF departments.
• Maintain expertise in the processes and controls of those plants.
• Manage service contractors and work with operators to meet production and safety targets.
• Plan and execute lockout isolation processes, with proper labeling and preparation of plant equipment for maintenance.
• Prepare for shutdowns, stop days and plant maintenance while keeping housekeeping and hygiene standards high.
• Support project teams and act as a key liaison for coordinating contractor work.
• Analyse plant data to troubleshoot and resolve process issues.
• Operate equipment such as cranes, forklifts and jackhammers as required.

Required profile

• Minimum secondary schooling.
• Sound knowledge of site processes, procedures, equipment and production techniques.
• Proven ability to work independently or in a team, with strong organisational, time and priority management skills.
• Effective oral and written communication and problem-solving ability.
• Unrestricted valid right to work in Australia.
• Desirable: forklift licence and prior experience in the mining/resources industry.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and SAP.
• Basic computer literacy.
