Senior Principal Engineer - Growth Organization

About the role

The Growth Organization helps Atlassian users discover, try, adopt and get value from its core products (Jira, Confluence, Loom and Teamwork Collection), combining product thinking, platforms and data analysis to drive experimentation. As a Senior Principal Engineer in the Growth Monetization team, you will shape the platforms behind new and upgraded customer flows, define technical strategy and drive the Atlassian AI transformation. The role is fully remote, with the engineer located in Australia or New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical evolution and long-term architecture of Growth Monetization services, customer experiences and experimentation platforms.
• Guide teams in front-end development to implement new customer-facing experiments and instrument data collection.
• Help understand the user journey and purchase funnel for product-led sales, using data to guide decisions.
• Maintain operational excellence in performance, reliability, observability and data safety and security.
• Raise technical standards through hands-on leadership in reviews, investigations, incidents and critical product problem solving, mentoring Principal and Senior Engineers.
• Lead technical experimentation strategies across multiple teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 12+ years of experience developing large-scale distributed systems.
• 4+ years of architectural oversight and technical leadership.
• Full-stack development experience turning designs into performant, reliable customer experiences.

Required skills

• Preferred: experience shaping technical direction across teams and leading major architectural initiatives.
• Preferred: large-scale distributed systems, data streaming platforms and event-driven architecture.
• Preferred: SaaS, PaaS, IaaS and public cloud (ideally AWS and/or GCP).
• Preferred: fluency in a modern object-oriented language (Java, Go, Python, JavaScript) and distributed systems patterns; mentoring and review leadership.

What we offer

• Base pay ranges for new hires depending on location: Zone A $243,900-$318,425, Zone B $219,510-$286,583, Zone C $202,437-$264,293.
