Senior Primary Engineer

About the role

Aurecon is seeking a Senior Primary Engineer to lead primary engineering packages for high‑voltage transmission substations, renewable energy connections and BESS projects across Australia.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design packages from concept and tender through detailed design for 220–500 kV substations and grid infrastructure.
• Provide senior technical advice, resolve complex design issues and conduct workshops, reviews and verification with clients and project teams.
• Manage primary engineering scope, programme, budgets and resources in partnership with Project and Design Managers.
• Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces with civil, structural, lines and secondary disciplines.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Significant experience in primary engineering of high‑voltage substations and transmission infrastructure.
• Proven ability to lead complex engineering packages and manage scope, schedule and budget.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with experience leading client workshops.

• Design of primary plant, layouts, clearances and conductor systems for 220–500 kV networks.
• Equipment specification and multidisciplinary interface coordination.
• Technical review and verification of primary design packages.
