Senior Payroll Officer

About the role

Hudson is partnering with a well-established leader in the defence and technology sector to recruit a Senior Payroll Officer for its collaborative payroll team in Canberra, ACT. The role sits in a complex payroll environment and involves end-to-end processing of payroll for a large and diverse workforce, with advice and support given to employees, managers and key stakeholders. It is a 12-month contract with potential to extend.

Key responsibilities

• Process payroll end to end for a large and diverse workforce, ensuring accuracy and adherence to required timeframes
• Interpret awards, enterprise agreements and relevant legislation
• Manage payroll enquiries and provide advice to employees and stakeholders
• Process leave, allowances, deductions, superannuation and termination payments
• Perform payroll reconciliations and reporting
• Assist with payroll audits and compliance requirements
• Support payroll system maintenance, testing and process improvements
• Build strong relationships across HR, Finance and the wider business

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience, or 3+ years if holding an advanced degree
• Australian citizen only
• Baseline clearance
• Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
• High attention to detail, strong problem-solving, and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
