Senior Network Security Engineer

About the role

Airservices Australia is recruiting a Senior Network Security Engineer for its Network & Telecommunications Platform (NTP) team. The role covers network security design, implementation, operational support and continuous improvement, contributing to a major network modernisation programme that moves legacy technology to a modern IP-based network. It is a fixed-term, full-time position based in Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne or Sydney.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain and continuously improve secure enterprise network infrastructure supporting highly available operational environments.
• Provide specialist expertise across network security technologies and lead technical investigations.
• Contribute to major transformation initiatives and partner with engineering teams, project delivery teams, vendors, operational stakeholders and system technical advisors.
• Take part in an on-call roster to resolve critical network faults and service incidents.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience (typically 7+ years) supporting and maintaining complex enterprise network security environments.
• Experience in highly available 24/7 operational environments.
• Knowledge of Australian Government security frameworks, including the Information Security Manual (ISM) and the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF).
• Experience applying systems engineering, governance and change management principles.
• Proven ability to identify, investigate and mitigate security vulnerabilities and incidents.
• Strong communication skills with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Recognised Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline.
• Australian citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) security clearance.

Required skills

• Network security technologies: NGFW, BGP, WAF, IPS/IDS, VPN, traffic engineering, load balancing, web proxy and remote access.
• Industry certifications such as Cisco, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, F5 or Infoblox, or equivalent practical experience.
• Desirable: AWS Advanced Networking and/or Security, Microsoft Azure, CISSP, ISSEP, CPEng or RPEng.
