Senior Network Security Engineer (Fortinet SME, OT)

About the role

A consultancy of around 130 people is seeking a senior Network Security Engineer with strong Fortinet and OT (Operational Technology) experience. You will design and deliver customer-facing network and security solutions for a major enterprise client, with a strong focus on OT and industrial environments. The role is based in Sydney (Mascot) with a hybrid arrangement of 3 days onsite, and is offered as an initial 6-month contract with a view to permanency.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver customer-facing network and security solutions across enterprise and OT environments
• Act as a Fortinet subject matter expert across firewalls and security platforms, including policy, configuration, optimisation and upgrades
• Engage directly with clients to understand their business needs and turn them into technical designs and implementation plans
• Support and enhance network and security services in OT environments such as industrial sites, critical infrastructure, manufacturing and utilities
• Lead and contribute to project delivery including migrations, upgrades, hardening and network segmentation
• Collaborate with senior engineers, architects and business stakeholders to define and embed best practice for Fortinet and OT security
• Produce clear documentation, design artefacts, runbooks and standards for OT and IT network environments

Required profile

• Strong hands-on experience with Fortinet firewalls and security solutions; FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer experience highly regarded
• Proven experience in a consultancy or professional services environment in a client-facing role
• Experience designing, supporting or securing OT and industrial networks (e.g. SCADA, PLC, ICS environments)
• Background working in enterprise or critical infrastructure environments
• Comfortable presenting to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Motivated to stay current with Fortinet and OT security best practices and pursue certifications such as Fortinet NSE and Cisco or security-focused ones

Required skills

• Solid understanding of core routing and switching concepts; Cisco experience highly regarded
• Strong understanding of network security principles including segmentation, remote access, VPNs, IDS/IPS and hardening
