Senior Network Engineer – Defence Agency

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join a national security agency in Canberra. You will implement, manage and retire infrastructure that supports digital services, working closely with network architects.

Key responsibilities

• Support network architects in developing, reviewing and refining network architectures and technical designs.
• Validate designs against business, operational, security and performance requirements.
• Develop implementation plans, build specifications, configuration standards and technical documentation.
• Plan, run and support functional, integration, performance, resilience and security testing.
• Support transition of network services into operations, including documentation and knowledge transfer.
• Analyse complex network issues, recommend actions and carry out installations as required.

Required profile

• Degree in computer science, IT or related field.
• 3 to 5 years of network engineering or administration experience in enterprise‑scale environments.
• Current or reinstatable AGSVA TSPV clearance (or ability to obtain).
• Ability to complete an Organisation Suitability Assessment before commencing.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, NAT and routing protocols.
• Expertise in switching technologies, VLANs and WAN technologies (MPLS, SD‑WAN, VPN).
• Experience with firewalls, VPNs and network security technologies.
• Proficiency in wireless networking, network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
• Familiarity with cloud networking (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud), infrastructure automation and scripting.
• Network certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Fortinet NSE, Palo Alto are highly regarded.
