Senior Medical Officer – Broome

About the role

The WA Country Health Service is seeking an experienced Senior Medical Officer to provide senior medical leadership across the West Kimberley region, based in Broome. This full‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term position offers the chance to shape healthcare delivery and improve outcomes for diverse communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for clinical governance, patient safety, quality improvement and medico‑legal matters.
• Lead recruitment, supervision and development of a sustainable medical workforce.
• Drive medical service planning, workforce sustainability and health service development initiatives.
• Champion culturally safe care and build partnerships with Aboriginal communities and regional stakeholders.

Required profile

• Unconditional registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Post‑graduate qualification in medical administration (RACMA or ACHSM) or working towards it.
• Proven medical leadership and management experience, including workforce and people management.
• Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Commitment to culturally responsive healthcare and Aboriginal health issues.
• Willingness to relocate to Broome if not already residing in the region.
