Senior Mechanical Engineer - Lifting Equipment

About the role

Roborigger, a Perth-based company developing products for crane lifting and logistics, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take charge of the design and project management of its rental fleet of Roborigger units. The role sits alongside a team of mechanical, electrical and mechatronic engineers, supported by research alliances with Curtin University, NERA, CORE Innovation Hub and METS Ignited. The company is moving into a new factory in Wangara, WA, and the new appointee will help set up the new workshop.

Key responsibilities

• Design Roborigger lifting and materials handling products that incorporate Roborigger technology
• Produce calculations and drawings suitable for independent third-party certification
• Manage the design, build and commissioning of Roborigger products, including multi-discipline inputs and cost management
• Work with a multidisciplinary team and build and commission electronically controlled equipment

Required profile

• Mechanical engineering qualification and at least 5 years of design experience
• Experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally serial manufacturing, and in an ISO 9001 environment
• Desirable: experience with electromechanical devices with electronics or hydraulics, and designing lifting equipment to AS 1418 or other lifting standards
• Knowledge of lifting standards such as AS 1418 and ISO 9001:2015 quality principles
• Ability to plan work practices formally and deliver efficient, systematic manufacturing processes

Required skills

• First-principles design, hand analysis and computer analysis
• Design of mechanisms with levers, shafts, gears, clutches and springs for compact spaces
• Good knowledge of bearings, seals and gears
• Highly computer literate; able to work with electrical, electronics and mechanical teams
