Senior Mechanical Engineer - Industrial

About the role

KBR is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its Perth team, supporting the delivery of multidisciplinary industrial projects across Australia. The role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership, mentoring and client engagement, acting as a technical authority for mechanical and piping design.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver mechanical engineering design across industrial projects, providing technical direction and discipline leadership
• Act as technical authority for mechanical and piping design, ensuring quality, compliance and fitness for purpose
• Plan, coordinate and undertake complex engineering tasks across multiple projects or work packages
• Prepare, review and approve designs, calculations, specifications, reports and deliverables
• Mentor engineers, designers and drafters and provide technical support
• Review and verify design calculations and drawings, including independent checking and design assurance
• Work with process, piping, electrical and civil teams, and consult clients, OEMs, suppliers and statutory authorities
• Improve design processes, standards and procedures, and follow the company's quality management system and engineering governance

Required profile

• Accredited Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
• Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, or eligibility to obtain it
• Significant postgraduate experience in mechanical engineering design in industrial sectors
• Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design on multidisciplinary projects
• Understanding of Australian standards, codes and industry practices
• Australian citizenship preferred; ability to obtain Defence clearance looked upon favourably

Required skills

• Manual calculation preparation and checking, plus industry-standard software
• Mechanical and piping design tools such as AutoCAD / Plant 3D, E3D, Caesar II, AFT (or equivalents)
• Experience with OEM equipment selection, specification and integration
• Managing work to scope, schedule and budget while maintaining quality
