Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Advanced Battery Systems

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to develop advanced battery systems for automotive, marine, aerospace and industrial applications. Based in Brisbane, you will work on projects that progress from concept through to production within a fast‑moving, start‑up style environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design custom battery assemblies, high‑current power circuits, harnesses and busbars.
• Develop enclosures optimized for thermal performance, vibration and impact resistance.
• Perform simulation, testing and validation to refine designs.
• Produce technical documentation including drawings, BOMs and product requirements.
• Research and apply manufacturing methods for low‑ and high‑volume production.
• Manage product data within a PLM/PDM system and support multidisciplinary decision‑making.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 4+ years post‑graduate design experience with complex assemblies.
• Experience taking products from concept to production, including DFMEA, DFA/DFX and BOM management.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities and ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
• RPEQ preferred but not essential.

Required skills

• 3D parametric modelling (SolidWorks or Inventor).
• Manufacturing processes: CNC machining, sheet‑metal fabrication, injection moulding, 3D printing.
• Knowledge of GD&T and prototyping techniques.
• Use of Atlassian tools (Confluence, Jira) for project tracking.
