Senior Manager Data Science & AI - Global Markets

About the role

CommBank is looking for a Senior Manager, Data Science & AI for its Global Markets team. This is a hands-on technical leadership role leading the design and delivery of applied AI solutions, from inception through production and ongoing monitoring. The team works with business leaders, engineers, risk specialists and partners to turn complex commercial problems into scalable machine learning and agentic AI solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead AI initiatives end to end, from problem definition and experimentation through deployment and performance monitoring, including starting new work while an existing solution is still in operation.
• Translate complex commercial and markets problems into scalable machine learning and agentic AI solutions.
• Establish and hold the modelling, validation, governance and monitoring practice needed to meet risk and model performance requirements in a regulated environment.
• Partner with business, engineering, risk and governance teams and with external technology partners to deliver safe and responsible outcomes.
• Develop data scientists and graduates through coaching, mentoring and technical leadership.
• Drive integration between AI delivery, engineering practice and business processes so solutions stay in use.
• Influence senior stakeholders by linking technical decisions to commercial value, P&L and strategic outcomes.
• Design delivery patterns where none exist yet and make them commercially viable.

Required profile

• Proven track record delivering multiple AI or machine learning solutions from inception through to production and monitoring.
• Ideally current or prior experience in financial markets, quantitative finance, forecasting, derivative pricing, trading or institutional banking.
• Experience leading technical teams, projects or capability uplift initiatives while still contributing directly to delivery.
• Able to partner with engineers, architects, product partners, business leaders and risk specialists.

Required skills

• Strong hands-on expertise in machine learning, generative AI or agentic AI.
• Programming skills such as Python and SQL.
• Ability to design scalable, maintainable, observable solutions aligned to risk and governance requirements.
