Senior Engineer, Urban Infrastructure

About the role

Join SMEC’s Urban Infrastructure team on the Sunshine Coast as a Senior Engineer. You will lead construction‑phase services, overseeing site supervision, project management, contract administration and quality management to deliver high‑impact infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain technical expertise in engineering and construction methods, materials, equipment and techniques.
• Anticipate and resolve on‑site construction issues.
• Manage client and stakeholder relationships, understanding their drivers.
• Mentor and train junior staff, fostering a growth mindset.
• Monitor construction progress against program schedules.
• Approve contractor progress claims and contract variations within specified limits.
• Ensure accurate two‑way information flow for allocated projects and compliance with role responsibilities.
• Collaborate proactively with team members and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of deliverables.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of industry experience in urban, land development, roads or municipal projects.
• Strong understanding of Australian codes and standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Australian driver’s licence.
• Experience with multidisciplinary design development and authority approvals is highly regarded.
