Senior Engineer, Platform Engineering

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team, responsible for designing, building and operating cloud infrastructure that supports critical business systems at News Corp. The role is hands‑on, involving code development, tooling, and day‑to‑day delivery of cloud platforms on AWS and, to a lesser extent, GCP. You will work in a hybrid model, three days per week in the office in Sydney or Melbourne.

Key responsibilities

• Build, maintain and improve AWS cloud infrastructure, with occasional GCP exposure.
• Write and manage infrastructure‑as‑code using Terraform and Terragrunt.
• Develop automation scripts and tools primarily in Python.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Participate in incident and problem management, monitoring platform health with CloudWatch, Splunk, SumoLogic, New Relic, Prometheus and Grafana.
• Identify and remediate security vulnerabilities, adhering to security, privacy and compliance policies.
• Collaborate with engineers, platform leads and product teams, and produce clear technical documentation.

Required profile

• Solid hands‑on experience with core AWS services (VPC, IAM, Organizations, governance).
• Strong Python programming skills for tooling and automation.
• Practical experience with Kubernetes, especially Amazon EKS, and GitOps tools such as ArgoCD.
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams and managing work through Jira.
