Senior Engineer (Digital)

About the role

Versent is looking for a Senior Engineer (Digital) in Sydney. You will deliver the technical solutions that meet the customer's transformational goals, working hands-on with internal and customer engineering teams. As an individual contributor, you contribute to detailed design and own the development of the solution.

Key responsibilities

• Contribute to software engineering processes and ways of working, not just coding.
• Develop and implement agreed architecture and detailed designs.
• Contribute to features across the entire lifecycle, from inception to production deployment.
• Navigate new code and make sense of what you find.
• Work comfortably with AI tools to be effective and productive.
• Keep high quality standards by following and improving best practices.
• Work towards rapid production deployment, with scalable and monitorable solutions.
• Update feature improvements and delivery daily, and be ready to resolve issues in real time.

Required profile

• Solid hands-on software development and engineering experience for backend services and applications.
• Experience with Java (or similar languages).
• Strong fundamentals of software design (design patterns) and systems design, including understanding of non-functional requirements and trade-offs.
• Experience developing and deploying services on cloud platforms (not just infrastructure).
• Agentic AI coding experience is highly valued; willingness to quickly adopt AI-powered engineering is required.

Required skills

• Node.js experience.
• REST API design and implementation.
• TDD (Test Driven Development).
• Horizontally scaling microservices over AWS.
• AWS serverless services such as API Gateway, Lambda, S3, EventBridge, SNS, SQS, CloudFront, Step Functions, Route53 and VPC.
• CI/CD with AWS tools or GitHub Workflows.
• Nice to have: Kotlin, TypeScript, Temporal workflow orchestration, GitHub Actions, and AI coding tools such as Claude Code or OpenCode.
