Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Substations

About the role

GGC delivers major renewable energy and power infrastructure projects in Australia, including high-voltage substations, BESS, wind farms and utility-scale developments. It is looking for electrical engineers across experience levels with a strong foundation in substation primary and/or secondary design. You will join a growing engineering team supporting projects from early-stage design and bid development through detailed design, construction support, commissioning and project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver primary and/or secondary substation designs for high-voltage infrastructure projects.
• Develop SLDs, schematics, protection and control designs, equipment layouts and technical documentation.
• Perform or support power system studies including load flow, fault level, protection and earthing analysis.
• Support projects through design, procurement, construction and commissioning.
• Work closely with clients, project teams and multidisciplinary engineers to deliver practical, fit-for-purpose solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience delivering primary and/or secondary substation designs across HV infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of HV design standards, utility requirements and engineering best practice.
• Ability to manage engineering work packages and engage with clients, utilities and project stakeholders.
• Highly advantageous: experience leading engineering teams, coordinating multidisciplinary design, supporting bids and design reviews, and contributing to technical governance and engineering assurance; RPEQ, CPEng or eligibility for professional registration is highly regarded.

Required skills

• Substation design, protection and control, and power systems engineering.
• Technical documentation, drawings and studies.
• Tools such as ETAP, PowerFactory, AutoCAD or similar.
