Senior Electrical Design Engineer, APAC Substation Design

About the role

Amazon Web Services is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design of its data centre substations across the Asia Pacific portfolio. The role sits in the APAC HV Design team, which builds scalable, efficient power infrastructure such as high-voltage substations and grid connections. The engineer works with internal teams, utilities, manufacturers, vendors, consultants and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the group and internal and external teams supporting the data centre.
• Design and manage high and medium voltage substation systems on concurrent projects across multiple regions.
• Develop comprehensive electrical infrastructure designs using advanced engineering software.
• Collaborate with regional vendors, manufacturers and utility providers to specify electrical equipment.
• Work with local utilities to define site utility requirements and with local agencies to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
• Review and approve equipment submittals and define project scope.
• Support commissioning teams in testing and validating electrical systems.
• Travel to sites for reviews, work with field engineers, and carry out electrical system audits and start-ups.

Required profile

• 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities such as data centres, power generation or oil and gas.
• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, with at least 5 years of substation design experience.
• 4+ years developing design documentation (plans, specifications) for construction and/or permitting.
• Experience in data centre design, construction, operations or facility maintenance.
• Knowledge of critical data centre mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Experience with design or construction administration of electrical distribution systems from low to high voltage.
• Preferred: professional engineering or architectural licence, regional building code knowledge, and 3+ years of substation design for data centres.
