Senior Editor

About the role

University of Queensland Press (UQP), one of Australia's most respected publishing houses, is hiring a full-time, permanent Senior Editor based at its Long Pocket location. Reporting to the Managing Editor and working with a collaborative publishing team, the Senior Editor independently manages the editorial and production lifecycle of a diverse portfolio of adult fiction, non-fiction and children's titles. The base salary is $97,268 - $104,348 plus 17% superannuation (HEW Level 6).

Key responsibilities

• Independently project manage the editorial and production process for multiple book titles from manuscript to print.
• Undertake complex structural editing, copy editing and manuscript assessment to maintain high editorial standards.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with authors, freelancers, designers, proofreaders, typesetters and other publishing partners.
• Write compelling cover copy and marketing content and work with sales and marketing teams on title positioning and promotion.

Required profile

• Tertiary degree in English, Journalism, Communication or a Diploma in Editing and Publishing.
• At least three years' experience in a trade publishing house or another relevant editorial position.
• Experience evaluating and editing the content, structure and format of a range of written material.
• Strong project management, time management and organisational skills, able to handle multiple competing tasks and work to tight deadlines and budget.
• Advanced verbal and written communication skills and excellent computer skills.
• Unrestricted work rights in Australia; employer-sponsored work rights are not available.
