Senior DevOps Engineer - AWS, Terraform, CI/CD

About the role

Fortescue Integrated Technology's (FIT) Data and AI team is looking for an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join its Perth office. This is a hands-on, Monday to Friday role designing, building and operating secure, scalable cloud infrastructure, delivery pipelines and automation that support Fortescue's AI Platform. You will work with AWS, serverless applications and containerised workloads, collaborating with AI engineers, data scientists, infrastructure, networking and Cyber teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and operate AWS infrastructure and shared AI Platform services, balancing security, reliability, performance and cost.
• Develop serverless and event-driven solutions using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, SQS and Step Functions.
• Build reusable Terraform modules and automate infrastructure provisioning across development, test and production.
• Build and optimise CI/CD pipelines with GitHub and GitHub Actions, including automated testing, security scanning, approvals and rollback.
• Automate packaging, deployment and monitoring of AI applications, models and agents, supporting MLOps and LLMOps.
• Deploy, configure and troubleshoot Docker and Kubernetes applications, and implement cloud security controls such as least-privilege access, identity federation, secrets management and encryption.
• Set up monitoring, logging, tracing and alerting with CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus and Loki.
• Lead incident investigation, root cause analysis and operational improvements, and mentor engineers through code reviews and documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent industry experience.
• Significant hands-on DevOps, platform or cloud engineering experience delivering production services in enterprise environments.
• Proven ability to lead technical delivery, troubleshoot complex production issues, mentor engineers and influence engineering standards.

Required skills

• Strong AWS experience (Lambda, IAM, VPC, S3, CloudWatch, serverless architectures).
• Terraform with reusable modules and automated provisioning.
• CI/CD pipelines with GitHub and GitHub Actions.
• Docker and Kubernetes, Linux administration and networking.
• Python and shell scripting; understanding of MLOps/LLMOps and AI/ML lifecycles.
• Enterprise security and identity controls, including SSO, role-based access, secrets management and Microsoft Entra ID.
