Senior Cyber Threat Analyst

About the role

A high-performing cyber security team in Canberra is looking for an experienced Cyber Threat Analyst to defend complex enterprise environments against evolving cyber threats. The role covers threat hunting, incident response, malware analysis and cyber threat intelligence. It is advertised as a consultant position with a 12-month contract, extendable up to 24 months, and weekly pay.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct proactive threat hunting across networks, endpoints and cloud environments.
• Investigate suspicious activity, cyber intrusions and security incidents.
• Perform threat modelling, intelligence analysis and adversary research.
• Support incident response, including triage, containment and reporting.
• Analyse malware, vulnerabilities and emerging cyber threats.
• Collaborate with security operations, threat intelligence and vulnerability management teams.
• Produce clear technical reports and recommend improvements to security controls.

Required profile

• Proven experience in cyber threat hunting, incident response, threat intelligence or digital forensics.
• Knowledge of security frameworks such as PSPF, ISM, Essential Eight and NIST.
• Desirable: experience with Microsoft Sentinel, Elastic, QRadar, Rapid7, Tenable, AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Desirable: cyber security certifications such as CREST, GIAC, GCIA or GCIH.

Required skills

• Microsoft Defender, KQL and SIEM/EDR platforms.
• Malware analysis, threat modelling and intrusion detection.
• PowerShell and/or Python scripting and automation.
• Windows, Linux, Active Directory, Entra ID and cloud environments.
