Senior Communications Advisor

About the role

A small national agency, which works with governments, industry and community stakeholders, is recruiting a Senior Communications Advisor for a 12-to-18-month contract. The role sits in the Communications team, which covers the full communications mix: national education campaigns, media liaison, social media, website and intranet, graphic design, publications and the annual report. It is a Canberra-based position with a hybrid arrangement of two days a week working from home.

Key responsibilities

• Write and edit content for the website, subscriber emails, social media and internal channels
• Help develop, deliver and evaluate communication strategies, campaigns, publications and creative materials
• Provide social media advice, moderate and monitor channels daily, and create publish-ready content
• Gather and analyse channel data to report on the performance of internal and external communications
• Support media monitoring and coordinate responses to media enquiries
• Coordinate internal communications with the Assistant Director
• Manage communication projects to timeframes and budget, resolve issues as they arise
• Prepare procurement documentation in line with Agency and whole-of-government guidelines
• Contribute to business and operational planning and give administrative support to the Communications section

Required profile

• Experienced communications professional with APS experience
• Strategic communications experience, ideally in government or a policy environment
• Experience managing multiple communication projects to tight timeframes and budgets
• Ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Australian citizenship and a baseline security clearance (mandatory)
• Desirable: a tertiary qualification in communications or a related discipline

Required skills

• Strong writing and editing across web, email, social media and internal channels
• Hands-on social media experience, including content creation, moderation and performance reporting
• Media monitoring and coordination of media enquiries

What we offer

• Pay of $65-$75 per hour plus 12% superannuation
• 12 to 18 month labour hire contract
• Hybrid work, up to two days a week from home
