Senior Business and Investment Officer

About the role

Cumberland City Council, located 20 km west of Sydney, is recruiting a Senior Business and Investment Officer for its Place and Economy team. The officer supports engagement and marketing plans for local businesses and services, promotes investment across the council area, facilitates investment opportunities, supports major development proposals and attracts new business. The role also develops place-based projects that connect people and places, such as business engagement programs, community events and tourism initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Support and help develop and deliver engagement and marketing plans for local business and services
• Promote investment across the Cumberland City local government area, including facilitating investment opportunities and supporting major development proposals
• Attract new business investment to Cumberland
• Develop and implement local projects that improve connections between people and places, including business engagement programs, community and place-based events and destination and cultural tourism initiatives

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in a related discipline (e.g. Business, Marketing, Economics, Planning, Communications, Tourism management, Destination development) and/or similar role experience
• Demonstrated experience in economic development, investment attraction, business engagement or related place-based economic initiatives
• Demonstrated experience in planning and delivering events (e.g. networking events)
• Demonstrated experience in place-based disciplines such as Place Making, Management or Activation
• Class C driver's licence; right to live and work in Australia

Required skills

• Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and advocacy skills with internal and external stakeholders
• Project management skills to deliver projects on time and on budget
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and report preparation
• Research and analytical skills, able to work independently and as part of a team

What we offer

• Permanent, full-time position with a 70-hour fortnight, salary of $1,975.66 to $2,272.01 per week plus 12% superannuation (negotiated starting salary)
