Senior Adviser Mine Closure

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking an experienced Senior Adviser Mine Closure to join the Ranger Rehabilitation Project in Jabiru, Northern Territory. The role leads the planning, optimisation and reconciliation of material movement during mine closure, linking models, planning systems, survey, operations and compliance reporting so that every tonne moved is understood, tracked and validated. It reports to the Manager Engineering and involves a 14 days on, 7 days off roster (Bus In, Bus Out) with 10-hour days.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, optimisation and sequencing of material movement activities, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant closure outcomes.
• Develop and maintain life-of-project, annual and short-term material movement plans.
• Drive material placement validation and reconciliation using spatial, survey and operational data.
• Integrate block models, stockpile data, survey information and geospatial datasets to support planning and decision-making.
• Own and improve the material movement planning environment, including governance, data integrity, reporting and workflow.
• Partner with operational, technical and closure teams to deliver practical, risk-informed plans.
• Provide technical leadership and assurance across material movement strategies, compliance reporting and regulatory obligations.

Required profile

• Strong mine planning experience with material movement planning, sequencing and scheduling in complex operating or closure environments.
• Deep understanding of block models, grade control, reconciliation and stockpile modelling, including the limitations of historical datasets.
• Experience developing reconciliation, traceability and audit frameworks linking source material to final placement.
• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a relevant discipline.
• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
