Senior Accountant – Boutique Accounting Firm

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our boutique firm in Surry Hills, Sydney. The successful candidate will manage a diverse portfolio of individual and business clients, delivering high‑quality accounting, tax and advisory services.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns, Business Activity Statements and other compliance reports.
• Provide tax planning, structuring and business advisory services, including income‑averaging strategies where applicable.
• Liaise directly with clients to interpret complex Australian tax legislation and identify efficiency opportunities.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of engagements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of firm processes and service delivery.

Required profile

• 5‑8+ years of experience in public practice or a comparable professional services environment.
• Relevant accounting qualification (CA, CPA or equivalent) – preferred or in progress.
• Strong analytical mindset, attention to detail and proactive client‑service attitude.
• Experience in entertainment or professional sports sectors is an advantage.

Required skills

• Financial accounting and tax compliance.
• Preparation of financial statements, BAS and tax returns.
• Interpretation of Australian tax legislation, including income averaging.
• Proficiency with Xero Tax and XPM.
• Advanced Excel for analysis and reporting.
