Security Engineer

About the role

Betfair is seeking a Security Engineer to join its innovative security team. Working closely with the Security Manager, the role is responsible for protecting Betfair’s operating environment, identifying vulnerabilities, implementing controls and responding to security incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and analyse security vulnerabilities across the operating environment.
• Develop, implement and monitor security controls and measures.
• Conduct regular security assessments and testing to evaluate effectiveness.
• Respond to security incidents and breaches, performing investigations and remediation.
• Maintain and configure security tools and systems, including Microsoft Sentinel.
• Create, review and update security policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to communicate risks and ensure compliance.

Required profile

• Minimum 1–3 years of experience in security or a related field.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to spot potential risks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with staff and suppliers.
• Capability to work independently, define schedules and meet timelines.
• Willingness to stay up‑to‑date with the latest security trends and technologies.
• Basic understanding of infrastructure operations (data centre, network, server & storage management).
• Knowledge of ITIL practices.

Required skills

• Microsoft Sentinel (configuration, rule creation, analytics, automation, incident investigation).
• ITIL.
• Network protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SSL.
• Security standards: ISO 27001, ISMS processes.
• Cloud platforms: AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform.
• Threat detection and prevention systems.
• Data protection and encryption concepts.
