Seasonal Lifeguard (Queenstown and Zeehan Pools)

About the role

West Coast Council is recruiting Seasonal Lifeguards (including Senior Lifeguards) for the 2026-2027 swimming pool season at the Queenstown and Zeehan Swimming Pools. The pools are open to the public between 1 December and 31 March, and hours vary with demand, so flexibility is needed. Applicants must meet any legislative requirements for working with children.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise swimmers, enforce pool rules and promote safe behaviour
• Respond to emergencies, including first aid, CPR and water rescue
• Monitor water quality and assist with basic pool maintenance
• Provide customer service and help with opening, closing and daily operations
• Report incidents, hazards and maintenance needs to the supervisor
• Support school, club and community activities; Senior Lifeguards may coordinate shifts, keep records and liaise with supervisors

Required profile

• Current Pool Lifeguard certificate, or willingness to obtain it
• First Aid and CPR certificates, or willingness to obtain them
• Working with Vulnerable People check, or willingness to obtain it
• Good communication and customer service skills, calm under pressure
• Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays, and possibly at both pools
