School Counsellor - St Michael's, Gordonvale

About the role

Catholic Education Cairns is recruiting a School Counsellor for St Michael's School in Gordonvale, Queensland. The role focuses on the development, mental health and resilience of all students, including those at risk and those with special needs, through guidance and counselling skills applied directly and indirectly, and through systemic and individual interventions. It contributes to equitable educational access, participation and outcomes for all students. The position is permanent and part-time, three days per week, starting 18 January 2027.

Required profile

• With teacher qualifications: registered or eligible to be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.
• Without teacher qualifications: hold a Working with Children Blue Card.
• Degree-level qualification in Education Psychology or Social Work, with relevant postgraduate experience.
• Guidance Counsellors (teachers) need QCT registration and full membership of the Queensland Guidance Counsellor Association, or general registration with AHPRA or full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
• Guidance Counsellors (non-teachers, psychologists or social workers) need general registration with AHPRA or membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
• Full support for the ethos of Catholic Education and commitment to a child-safe organisation.
