Sample Services Officer

About the role

ALS is looking for a Sample Services Officer to join its Brisbane team in a varied role supporting environmental laboratory operations. It is not a traditional warehouse or courier role: you will coordinate freight and sample movements while also providing client service, handling sample receipt, managing records and running regular sample collection runs across Southeast Queensland. The position is full-time and permanent, Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:45pm, with a mix of time at the Brisbane site and time on the road.

Key responsibilities

• Greet clients dropping off samples and receive deliveries, registering and labelling client samples
• Answer phone calls and emails promptly and professionally
• Arrange couriers and prepare freight for dispatch
• Carry out sample collection across Southeast Queensland
• Review, triage, label and distribute sample deliveries and certificates of compliance (COCs) within agreed timeframes and according to client needs and approved procedures
• Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing shipments
• Handle loads up to 10kg, maintain sample storage and disposal following safe work practices, and use a forklift to load and unload cages

Required profile

• Positive, responsive customer focus and a professional attitude
• Driver's licence (essential)
• Ability to process multiple concurrent requests efficiently and accurately
• Understanding of laboratory safety and chemical hazards
• Eligible to work in Australia (citizen or permanent resident, or holder of a valid working visa)

Required skills

• Forklift licence is desirable but not essential
• Excellent communication, organisational and time management skills
• Ability to absorb and retain high levels of information
