Sample Reception Officer – Environmental Lab, Darra

About the role

A local government-owned client, represented by Alchemy Recruitment, is recruiting a Sample Reception Officer for its NATA-accredited environmental testing laboratory in Darra. The position starts immediately on a 6-month contract from 2 November 2026 to 30 April 2027, with extension potential.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, inspect and register water and environmental samples into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
• Verify sample documentation and chain of custody records for completeness and accuracy
• Coordinate sample storage, preservation and distribution to the chemistry and microbiology testing sections
• Act as key point of contact for customer sample enquiries and resolve discrepancies with clients, field teams and couriers
• Prepare and dispatch sample containers, wash laboratory glassware and complete occasional courier runs

Required profile

• Current C class driver's licence (essential)
• Experience in a laboratory, scientific, environmental or similarly regulated environment
• Previous experience in an ISO 17025 or NATA accredited laboratory is favourable
• Strong customer service skills and a confident phone manner
• High attention to detail and accurate data entry
• Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
• Science qualification (e.g. chemistry, microbiology, environmental or laboratory science), a business qualification or relevant work experience preferred

Required skills

• LIMS or comparable database experience is highly regarded
• Full training on laboratory systems, procedures and quality requirements is provided

What we offer

• Pay of $39.94 per hour plus superannuation
• Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm (38 hours per week)
