Sample Preparer (Casual)

About the role

ALS is seeking multiple Sample Preparers for its Geochemistry site in Orange, NSW, to support mining and exploration clients. The role involves preparing samples for laboratory analysis by crushing, splitting and pulverising mineral samples in a warehouse. It is a casual position with a physically demanding, dusty environment where a half-face respirator is mandatory and you must be clean-shaven.

Key responsibilities

• Operate sample preparation equipment according to the procedures in the relevant QWIs
• Sort received samples according to the client's submission form and record discrepancies on the sample sorting sheet
• Apply barcode labels, capture received sample weights in the Gems interface and transfer scanned samples to drying racks
• Crush, riffle, split and sieve samples before drying them at the specified temperature
• Operate pulverising mills to reach the required end-product specification
• Inform the supervisor promptly of issues such as excessively wet samples or machinery breakdowns
• Maintain machinery and equipment and keep work areas clean and tidy

Required profile

• Residing in or planning to relocate to Orange, NSW, with current Australian work rights
• Available to work full-time hours and full rotating rosters: Monday to Friday 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, and Monday to Friday 1:30 pm to 9:30 pm
• Previous production experience and flexibility with availability are highly advantageous
• Reliable, physically fit and able to handle repetitive manual tasks
