Safety Business Partner

About the role

Strait Link, which connects Tasmania with mainland Australia through freight services, is looking for an experienced Safety Business Partner in Launceston. The role goes beyond compliance: it partners with leaders and frontline teams to build a proactive safety culture, influence how safety is understood and practised across a complex logistics operation, and deliver safety initiatives, audits, reporting and training.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with operational leaders to strengthen safety leadership and accountability.
• Coach and support teams to identify risks and embed safe work practices.
• Lead incident investigations and drive meaningful corrective actions.
• Facilitate risk assessments and support critical risk management.
• Maintain and continuously improve the Safety Management System.
• Deliver safety initiatives, audits, reporting and training programs.
• Support compliance with WHS legislation while focusing on practical, operational outcomes.
• Build relationships that encourage engagement, ownership and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Qualifications in Workplace Health & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
• At least five years' experience in a Safety Advisor, Safety Partner or Safety Business Partner role.
• Strong knowledge of Australian WHS legislation and contemporary safety practices.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a practical, collaborative approach.
• Experience in logistics, transport, warehousing, maritime or other high-risk environments is highly regarded.

Required skills

• Experience with Safety Management Systems, including DoneSafe or a similar platform.
• Ability to influence at all levels of the business.
