Safety and Compliance Manager

About the role

Airnorth, an Australian airline based in Darwin with a newly acquired Perth base, is seeking a Safety and Compliance Manager to join its leadership team. The role ensures effective safety, security, quality and hazard management systems are maintained, advises on the company-wide control of regulatory, technical and operational manuals and documents, chairs the Safety Action Group and acts as Secretary of the Safety Review Board. It is required under regulation 119.155 for an Australian air transport operation.

Key responsibilities

• Oversight of security, occupational health and safety, quality and environment policy and procedures, and overall management of the Safety and Compliance Department staff.
• Independent review of change management processes and liaison with external auditors, regulators and clients on external audits.
• Set long- and short-term safety objectives that are documented, transparent and reviewed regularly by the board.
• Provide leadership for the Safety Management System (SMS), maintain and review it, and give timely safety advice to managers, staff and contractors.
• Conduct incident and accident investigations, monitor civil aviation regulatory changes, and supervise occurrence and incident reporting programs.
• Identify and manage hazards so they remain ALARP, and chair the Safety Action Group and act as secretary to the Safety Review Board.
• Act as Security Contact Officer, advising staff and management on security issues.

Required profile

• Broad operational knowledge of an aviation organisation, including engineering, cabin services, ground and flight operations.
• Detailed knowledge of aviation legislation and its effect on day-to-day operations.
• Experience as a Lead Auditor.
• Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Legal right to live and work in Australia; shortlisting starts immediately.

Required skills

• Safety management training and experience using aviation safety and quality management systems.
• Sound knowledge of human factors.
