Safety Advisor

About the role

A new Safety Advisor position has been created in Yarra Trams' Safety & Security team. Reporting to the Manager, Safety, the role supports the broader Safety function by giving formal advice on rail safety behaviours and procedures, hazard identification and mitigation, and by assisting with site safety and accreditation processes.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a safety business partner, mainly with the operations division, to help manage operational risk
• Advise on all SMS aspects, covering governance, risk management, assurance and training and safety promotion
• Lead enterprise safety programs and initiatives
• Lead audits and compliance activities related to Yarra Trams' rail safety processes
• Support regulatory reporting requirements and issue resolution

Required profile

• Tertiary study in Safety, Risk or equivalent
• 5+ years of OHS safety and/or rail safety management experience
• Experience in a safety business partnering capacity, supporting risk and control owners
• Experience applying Safety Management Systems, preferably in rail or another complex operations setting
• Experience in risk management procedures and auditing, investigation, compliance and reporting procedures
• Ideally comes from a rail operating environment or another high-risk, safety-critical environment
