About the role

The Australian National University is seeking a Research Fellow on a fixed‑term basis (up to 12 months) to lead the development of a model for hydrogen depreciation and decrepitation of magnets within the Sustainable Rare‑Earth Nanocomposite for Next‑Generation Li‑S Batteries project. The role sits in the School of Engineering, College of Systems and Society, and offers an interdisciplinary, high‑impact research environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement continuum models of hydrogen decrepitation in magnetic materials.
• Design and simulate sustainable rare‑earth nanocomposite materials for next‑generation lithium‑sulfur batteries.
• Collaborate with cross‑disciplinary teams across the School of Engineering and the College of Systems and Society.
• Supervise and mentor graduate students and contribute to academic leadership.
• Publish research findings and present results at national and international forums.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in high‑impact collaborative and cross‑disciplinary research.
• Expertise in continuum modelling of materials and processes, particularly hydrogen decrepitation of magnets.
• Background in sustainable rare‑earth nanocomposite materials for energy‑storage applications.

What we offer

• Salary range $121,598 – $137,870 per annum plus 17 % superannuation.
