Research Director – Disability Studies

About the role

We are seeking a senior Research Director to lead the Centre for Disability Studies’ research programme, driving evidence‑based change for people with intellectual disability. Reporting to the CEO, you will shape the strategic agenda, mentor a multidisciplinary team and position the centre as a national and international leader in inclusive disability research.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a research strategy aligned with the centre’s mission and policy impact goals.
• Secure and manage major research funding, including grant writing and stewardship.
• Lead high‑impact collaborations with universities, government agencies, industry partners and disability organisations.
• Ensure research findings are translated into practical improvements in policy, services and community outcomes.
• Provide mentorship, supervision and professional development for a diverse research team.
• Champion inclusive and ethical research practices that centre people with intellectual disability in design, implementation and dissemination.

Required profile

• Recognised leader in disability or health research with a strong publication record.
• PhD in Health Sciences, Disability Studies, Public Health, Social Sciences or a related discipline.
• Extensive senior research leadership experience, preferably in intellectual disability.
• Proven track record of attracting competitive research funding and successful grant management.
• Demonstrated ability to influence policy and practice through research.
