Registered Nurse – Surgical Ward 5A

About the role
Join the dedicated team on Ward 5A at Launceston General Hospital, providing compassionate, person‑centred care for patients undergoing upper gastrointestinal, colorectal, urological and general surgeries. As a Registered Nurse you will deliver safe, high‑quality nursing care in partnership with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide clinical nursing care to surgical patients throughout their postoperative journey.
- Monitor vital signs, assess patient condition and promptly intervene when needed.
- Administer medications, manage IV therapy and perform wound care.
- Document care accurately using electronic health records.
- Collaborate with doctors, allied health professionals and support staff during ward rounds and handovers.
- Educate patients and families about postoperative recovery and self‑care.
- Adhere to infection control, safety and quality standards.
Required profile
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing Board of Australia.
- Experience in a surgical or acute care setting is preferred.
- Willingness to work fully rotational shift patterns, including nights and weekends.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to patient‑centred care.
Required skills
- Clinical assessment and patient monitoring.
- Medication administration and IV therapy.
- Post‑operative wound care.
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems.
