Registered Nurse – Mental Health Intensive Care Unit

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) will work in the Mental Health Drug and Alcohol (MHDA) Services of the Mental Health Intensive Care Unit at Hornsby Ku‑Ring‑Gai Hospital. The role focuses on delivering recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed care guided by evidence‑based practice and multidisciplinary collaboration. You will lead nursing staff, support patient health outcomes and ensure safe practice within the adopted model of care.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coach nursing staff, including Enrolled Nurses, to provide high‑quality mental health care.
• Plan, implement and evaluate mental health nursing activities in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain safe practice standards and adhere to professional, ethical and legal requirements.
• Utilise information technology systems to document care and support clinical decision‑making.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse – Division 1 registration with AHPRA.
• Current mental health, drug and alcohol clinical knowledge and strong problem‑solving ability.
• Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and excellence in mental health nursing.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and understand professional, ethical and legal obligations.
