Registered Nurse - Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services

About the role

Hunter New England Local Health District is recruiting a Registered Nurse for Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services (DACS) at Lakeview Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Management Service, based at Belmont Hospital. Working in a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will provide compassionate, non-judgemental nursing care to patients undergoing drug and alcohol withdrawal, helping them feel safe, supported and empowered during their recovery. The position is permanent full time, 38 hours per week, with remuneration of $81,748.17 to $114,771.98 per year plus superannuation and salary packaging.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe, person-centred nursing care to patients undergoing drug and alcohol withdrawal
• Conduct patient assessments, clinical observations and administer medication
• Support withdrawal management through motivational interviewing and harm minimisation
• Build therapeutic relationships and encourage positive recovery outcomes
• Work with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate patient care

Required profile

• Compassionate, respectful and committed to person-centred care
• Non-judgemental and able to build therapeutic relationships with vulnerable patients
• Strong communicator with effective interpersonal skills
• Sound clinical judgement and critical thinking
• Organised, flexible and adaptable, able to manage competing clinical priorities
• Previous experience in drug and alcohol nursing is desirable but not required
• Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency or a New Zealand passport; visa sponsorship is not available
