Registered Nurse – AOD (Mon-Fri, No Shift Work)

About the role

Healthcare Australia is seeking a Registered Nurse specialised in Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) to provide holistic, person‑centred care within a multidisciplinary team for individuals in immigration detention. This is a day‑only role (Monday‑Friday) with no shift work, focused on delivering safe, evidence‑based interventions in a trauma‑informed environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive AOD assessments and develop individualised care plans.
• Deliver brief interventions, support withdrawal management and monitor client progress.
• Provide health promotion, medication administration and psycho‑education.
• Collaborate with doctors, allied health professionals and other team members to ensure coordinated care.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and adhere to AHPRA standards.

Required profile

• AHPRA‑registered General Nurse with unrestricted registration.
• Either a minimum of 5 years AOD nursing experience plus a postgraduate mental health qualification, or a minimum of 7 years AOD nursing experience without the postgraduate qualification.
• Demonstrated passion for primary health care and ability to work in a detention‑centre setting.
• Commitment to trauma‑informed, culturally respectful practice.
