Registered Midwife - Birthing Services Unit

About the role

Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg is recruiting a Registered Midwife for its Birthing Services Unit. The unit's midwives provide evidence-based, women-centred care in a birthing suite. Positions are fixed term, full time or part time, paid according to the EBAL scale.

Key responsibilities

• Work a rotating roster including morning, afternoon and night duty shifts, with the option to work 09:30-18:00 triage and induction bookings and perform cervical ripening for induction of labour.
• Provide holistic care in birthing services, with support to grow and develop skills.
• Facilitate physiological birth where possible while managing high-risk, complicated pregnancies and births.

Required profile

• Previous birthing suite experience.
• Level 2 or above RANZCOG practitioner status.
• Resilient, compassionate and committed to patient-centred care, with excellent clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills.
• Flexible, positive approach to patient care and contribution to a positive team culture.
• Current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check, proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccinations consistent with public health orders, and AHPRA registration.

Required skills

• Competence in IV cannulation, balloon catheter insertion for induction of labour, perineal suturing and waterbirth (or working towards these skills).
• Knowledge of managing high-risk, complicated pregnancies and birth.
