Registered Midwife - Birthing Services Unit

About the role

Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg is recruiting a Registered Midwife for its Birthing Services Unit. The unit's midwives provide evidence-based, women-centred care in a birthing suite. The position is permanent, with full-time or part-time options available, and pays according to the EBAL scale.

Key responsibilities

• Work a rotating roster of morning, afternoon and night shifts, with the option to work only night shifts.
• Perform triage and induction bookings between 09:30 and 18:00, and carry out cervical ripening for induction of labour.
• Provide holistic care in the birthing suite, supporting physiological birth where possible.
• Support ongoing skill development in the unit.

Required profile

• Previous birthing suite experience.
• Level 2 or above RANZCOG practitioner status.
• Resilient, compassionate and committed to patient-centred care, with excellent clinical, time management, organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt and problem solve, and to contribute to a positive team culture.
• Current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check, proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccinations consistent with public health orders, and AHPRA registration.

Required skills

• Competence in IV cannulation, balloon catheter insertion for induction of labour, perineal suturing and waterbirth (or working towards these skills).
• Knowledge of managing high-risk, complicated pregnancies and births.
