Refrigeration Mechanic Level 1-4

About the role

John Hunter Hospital's Engineering department has a Mechanical team of six staff who look after the HVAC, air conditioning and refrigeration infrastructure for the John Hunter Campus and its ancillary buildings. As a refrigeration mechanic you will perform general reactive work, including breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance and testing of refrigeration and air conditioning systems on campus or at the Wansey Dialysis facility in Charlestown.

Key responsibilities

• Handle breakdown repairs, preventive and statutory maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning systems
• Test systems across the plant areas of a large health facility
• Work alongside other mechanically qualified staff, supported by the Mechanical Supervisor and Engineering management

Required profile

• A full trade qualification and an appropriate Refrigeration Handling Licence
• Post-trade qualifications are highly regarded
• Demonstrating 5 years' employment in the trade gives a starting salary at Level 4 ($80,520) under the NSW Health Skilled Trades Award
• Eligibility for permanent employment requires Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency, or a New Zealand passport; temporary visa holders may only be offered employment if no suitable local candidate is found, and visa sponsorship is not available
