Works Manager

About the role

Sulzer is looking for a Works Manager in Newcastle to manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop, working with the Service Centre Manager. The role covers supervision of teams, coordination of resources, costing of works for tenders and scheduling of work flow between departments. It suits candidates coming from an engineering or workshop background with strong technical knowledge of motors, and requires at least 5 years of supervisory experience.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company and service centre safety, quality and environmental requirements.
• Manage daily workshop operations so work is safe, efficient and productive.
• Hold supervisors and employees accountable for performance, productivity, quality, safety and adherence to standards.
• Work with the Service Centre Manager to meet operational, financial and customer service targets.
• Plan workshop capacity, labour utilisation and workflow to meet delivery commitments.
• Run production planning and work-in-progress meetings, and deliver projects on time, within budget and to quality standards.
• Oversee job estimating, costing and project close-out.
• Maintain customer relationships and drive continuous improvement.
• Coach and support employees, prepare reports, and implement company policies and QESH requirements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of supervisory experience.
• 5+ years of experience with electrical or mechanical products.
• Trade qualification in electrical or mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
• Ability to travel about 20% of the time.
