Quality Operator - Steel Mill (Rooty Hill)

About the role

A permanent full-time Quality Operator position at the Rooty Hill Steel Mill, part of the Sydney Bar Mill business. The role is based in a supportive team within a steel mill that uses recycled scrap and is recognised as a sustainability champion. Working hours are 6:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday, with regular overtime on Fridays.

Key responsibilities

• Assess the quality of steel bundles using micrometers, verniers and other measuring equipment, offline from the rolling mill.
• Lift and separate non-conforming steel bars from prime quality bars using safe lifting techniques.
• Enter data, send email and use Excel and production systems on a computer.
• Follow safe working practices and encourage a safe, healthy workspace.
• Work closely with other operators, communicating clearly and watching team movements.

Required profile

• Preferred backgrounds: manufacturing, quality inspection, metal fabrication, mechanical assembly or trade.
• Ability to identify defects and maintain high-quality standards.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Able to work unsupervised and follow directions.
• Safety-first attitude, able to work independently and as part of a team.
