Project Manager – Wangetti Trail Ecotourism Project

About the role

The position provides senior project and technical leadership for the delivery of the Wangetti Trail, a high‑profile ecotourism initiative within the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Working in a multidisciplinary team, you will guide planning and delivery of trail infrastructure across Mowbray and Macalister Range national parks.

Key responsibilities

• Lead complex planning, design, procurement and contract administration for the trail and associated visitor facilities.
• Ensure all works comply with legislation, approval conditions, relevant standards and departmental policies.
• Provide authoritative advice on risk, constructability and compliance in a sensitive protected‑area setting.
• Maintain an on‑ground presence to verify site constraints, monitor construction quality, conduct inspections and drive continuous improvement.
• Build and sustain relationships with First Nations peoples, local government, delivery partners, community representatives and senior executives.
• Represent the project in high‑level forums and deliver clear reporting, presentations and advice to support executive decision‑making.

Required profile

• Demonstrated senior project management experience in large‑scale infrastructure or ecotourism projects.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder‑engagement capabilities, especially with Indigenous and community groups.
• Commitment to governance, accountability and high‑quality delivery in protected environments.
• Ability to provide strategic risk and compliance guidance and to communicate effectively at executive level.
